The Jamaican Economy Panel is a new initiative, bringing together a selection of economic and public policy experts.
Each round of a JEP Discussion will provide a monthly discussion on a key economic topic.
The JEP is an initiative of the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO) and the Department of Economics at The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona.
The experts are selected by the JEP team and bring together academia, the private sector and international institutions. All panelists, resident and abroad, either work in Jamaica or on issues relevant to the Jamaican economy. The Jamaica panellists are asked to respond to a limited number of questions on a regular basis (2 or 3 questions, on a monthly basis) on a different topic each time.
The JEP aims to mainstream the economic discussions and questions which economists and other public policy experts grapple with every day. It will bring together some of the policy-related questions that economists and public policy experts are trained to address with the kinds of questions that people in the general population may have. The work of JEP is to facilitate a forum to position and give visibility to some of the issues that experts may want to address, while engaging the government and the public at large.
The inaugural JEP discussion centres the Jamaican economy in relation to its COVID-19 response and recovery.
