The Bahamas

The Bahamas is an archipelago of over 700 islands and cays, of which only around 30 are inhabited situated just 80 km off the coast of Florida. It is considered to be a high-income country. Its National Development Plan Vision 2040 is by and large aligned with the 2030 Agenda and the government has set up an SDG Unit under the Office of the Prime Minister responsible for following up on Vision 2040 and the SDGs.

The Multi-Country UN Resident Coordinator's Office for Jamaica, The Bahamas, Bermuda, The Cayman Islands and Turks and Caicos Islands, is located in Jamaica and works under the leadership of one United Nations Resident Coordinator, together with UN teams and partners, to advance sustainable development and cooperation in the Caribbean.

The Bahamas is unique to have a United Nations Country Coordination Officer to sustain UN commitment to a robust and responsive programme of work within the Islands.

The UN Country Team (UNCT) in the Bahamas carries out its brand promise of Delivering Results Together through a joint framework called the UN Multi-Country Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UN MSDF) in the Caribbean. The UN System in Jamaica will implement the UN MSDCF for the Caribbean guided by a Country Implementation Plan (CIP) for The Bahamas. The CIP operationalizes the higher-level outcomes of the regional programme into concrete, measurable and time-bound outputs and activities for The Bahamas. CIPs set out The Bahamas year to year action on the UN MSDCF. 

The UNCT works in collaboration with the Government of The Bahamas to implement the strategy, monitor impact and to ensure adequate resource allocation for programme delivery.
